A Centurion - 100 Years

Artie Patterson Jones was born in Anderson, South Carolina, July 28, 1900, and now resides in Asheville, North Carolina. She is the last surviving member of the immediate family of Aaron and Dora Smith Patterson.


Artie was married twice. Her first husband was the late Thomas Mason. To this union four children were born: a daughter, Addie; sons, Willie, Ulysses, and Clyde. After the death of Thomas Mason, she married the late Celester Jones. The four children took on the name of Jones, changing from Mason.


Addie Jones resides in Asheville with her mother. She was married and widowed twice. Her first husband was the late Ned Edward Jackson. Three Children were born to this union - two sons, Ned Edward and Waymon Jackson, and a daughter, Joe Alice Jackson Ruff. After the death of Ned Edward, Addie married the late Joseph Jones and was blessed with another daughter, Gladys Jones White.


The late Willie Jones, the second son of Artie and Thomas Mason, married Marvin Harris. They were blessed with two children - Willie Jones Jr. And the late Mary Ann Jones Knox. Willie later married Estelle Reid Jones. A son and two daughters came from this union, Donald Wayne, Rita, and Tina. Willie was also the father of Patricia Anthony.


Ulysses was the next son born to Artie and Thomas. He married Gladys Boozer. Born to this union were Gloria, Eula, Thomas, Alvin, Claude, Charles, and Beverly.


The late Clyde Jones was the next son of Artie and Thomas. He never married. He lost his life at the age of 26 in the Korean War in 1951.
